Darkness and heat rejection are two different jobs, which is the part budget shops tend to skip over. Dyed film does the first one only, because infrared rays carry most of the sun's heat and pass through dye almost freely. That is why a car with dark dyed windows still bakes in a parking lot. Ceramic particles block infrared directly, so even a light, CA-legal ceramic film on front windows cuts more heat than a dyed limo shade ever will.
